At In Vitro Microplants Ltd, we are committed to advancing plant biotechnology with a focus on Scottish native trees and woody species. Our work supports both conservation and innovation, providing a bridge between science, forestry, and the private sector.
We work in partnership with organisations such as the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE), the National Trust for Scotland (NTS), and private sector partners to explore new plant varieties and conservation strategies.
Each R&D project typically runs for 6–12 months, with monthly progress reports provided to partners for full transparency and traceability.

Research and Development
Transforming Ideas into Sustainable Growth
We actively welcome sponsorship, grants, and CSR partnerships to expand our R&D efforts.
We provide comprehensive Research and Development services for our Clients, tailored to meet diverse needs and specifications with a strong focus on Scottish native trees and woody species.
Our approach involves the systematic testing of various culture media, components, plant hormones, as well as optimising light intensity and temperature conditions to enhance plant growth and development.
Our R&D work bridges conservation and innovation, offering practical solutions for forestry, conservation bodies, and the private sector.
Every project is tailored to meet the needs of our partners, with full transparency, traceability, and regular progress updates.
HOW IT WORKS?
Our R&D projects typically run for 6–12 months and include:
Culture Media Optimisation – systematic testing of basal salts, plant hormones, antioxidants, carbon sources, and light/temperature conditions to determine the best combinations for each species.
New Woody Species Development – we accept new plant species from clients and establish the most effective tissue culture medium for each taxon. From elms and whitebeams to birch, hazel, willow, rowan, hawthorn and beyond, our research delivers species-specific protocols for successful multiplication and rooting.
