Research & Innovation
Developing practical solutions for challenging plant species
At In Vitro Microplants Ltd, research and innovation are central to our work. We develop and refine plant tissue-culture techniques to overcome challenges in the propagation of woody, ornamental and conservation-priority species.
Our applied research focuses on culture establishment, oxidative browning, contamination reduction, shoot multiplication, rooting and acclimatisation.
By combining laboratory experimentation with controlled-environment production and nursery trials, we aim to translate scientific findings into reliable, commercially practical propagation methods.
We collaborate with nurseries, botanical gardens, conservation organisations and research institutions to investigate new species, improve propagation performance and support plant conservation.
Research partnerships and collaborative development projects are welcome.
Our Research Areas
Our research focuses on overcoming practical challenges in woody plant micropropagation, from culture establishment and contamination control to shoot multiplication, rooting and successful nursery acclimatisation.

Oxidative Browning & Antioxidants
Investigating antioxidant treatments and culture conditions to reduce tissue browning and improve explant survival.

Culture Media Optimisation
Evaluating basal media, plant growth regulators and nutrient combinations to improve shoot development and multiplication.

Sterilisation & Contamination Control
Developing and evaluating surface sterilisation procedures for difficult woody plant material.

LED Lighting & Growth Environments
Investigating light intensity, temperature and controlled-environment conditions to support healthy microplant growth.

Rooting & Acclimatisation
Developing rooting and ex-vitro transition methods using hybrid trays, humidity control and specialist growing substrates.

Propagation Feasibility Studies
Assessing the potential of new species and cultivars for in vitro establishment and commercial multiplication.
Future Biotechnology Development
Expanding our scientific capabilities
Alongside our established tissue-culture and micropropagation services, In Vitro Microplants Ltd is exploring new biotechnology applications to support plant health, cultivar identification and genetic quality assurance.
DNA Fingerprinting & Cultivar Identification
Planned development of DNA-based methods for identifying plant cultivars and distinguishing individual genotypes.
Genetic Fidelity Testing
Exploring molecular techniques to assess clonal identity and genetic consistency in micropropagated plants.
Meristem Sanitation & Virus Elimination
Future research into meristem-tip culture and sanitation techniques, supported by appropriate diagnostic testing to assess pathogen status.
These capabilities are currently in the planning and research stages and are not yet offered as routine commercial services.
